| With a great view of the West Elk Mtns and the Needlerock, this cottage sleeps 1 twin, rest on air mattresses; kitchen, private clothes washer, wood burning stove, extra heater, and shower; Cookware, utensils, microwave, linens, and CD player; horse fencing. No animals or smoking. Bring kids, marshmellow, coat hangers, fishing pole. On way up from Albuquerque, stop by Ouray Hot Springs, pronounced You're Ray!
Activities out the back door: bird and deer watching in the garden, hiking on BLM land, biking, and cross country skiing, kid's sled hill. Take a horse back ride on SLIP - the Apaloosa who's spots slipped out. Fishing is 5 min. away at the Crawford State Park. 15 miles away is hunting area in the West Elk Mountains. Snowmobiles can be rented in Hotchkiss. Fly Fishing and Rafting are 20 min. away in any direction. The north rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison is nearby. The road to Gunnison has the best wild flowers in July.
There's nothing but wilderness all the way to Crested Butte, which as the crow flies would only be 20 miles; however, you could ride your horses all the way there on old Ute trails.
Down the road is the $1000/night Smith Fork Ranch and nearby are many guest home rentals. |
